In 2023, the European market recorded 3 million new electric vehicle registrations, with 67% being battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This accounted for 23% of total new car registrations, marking a 16% increase compared to 2022. However, high energy costs for public charging may slow the pace of growth in the coming years.
A detailed TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) analysis, conducted on 10 user-vehicle combinations, revealed that BEVs are more cost-effective in only 4 out of 10 cases, specifically when home charging is available.
To ensure a daily range of 75 km (average daily is 38 km), a 10-hour overnight charge at 1.125 kW would be sufficient. Based on this assumption, the PODIS® infrastructure was developed — a modular, flexible, and scalable power distribution system that enables the supply of multiple users from a single main meter (common areas) at low installation and operating costs, also thanks to load management systems for dynamic user balancing.
