July 28, 2026A new push for the expansion of home charging infrastructure in Italy. The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has published a decree introducing a new incentive program for the purchase and installation of wallboxes, charging stations for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles intended for domestic use.
The measure will remain in force until March 31, 2030, unless the available funds are exhausted earlier, and aims to support the expansion of private charging infrastructure both in individual homes and in shared condominium spaces.
The program has a total budget of €38 million. Of this amount, €10 million comes from remaining funds from previous 2025 incentive schemes, while an additional €5 million will be allocated in 2026. Between 2027 and 2029, a further €15 million will be made available, with the final €8 million scheduled for 2030.
The incentives are intended for both private individuals and condominium associations, with different thresholds depending on the type of installation. Individual users may receive a contribution covering up to 80% of the cost of purchasing and installing a wallbox, up to a maximum of €1,500.
Higher incentives are available for condominium installations. If the charging station is installed in a shared area and intended for use by multiple residents, the maximum contribution may reach €8,000.
The measure could further accelerate the growth of home charging, which many electric vehicle users consider the most practical and cost-effective solution for everyday charging needs.
How much does it cost to install a wallbox?
The cost of installing a home charging point can vary significantly depending on the selected power output and the complexity of the installation.
Basic 3.7 kW solutions, including dedicated reinforced sockets, start at around €300 and can reach approximately €600. Meanwhile, 7.4 kW wallboxes, currently among the most common options in the residential market, generally range between €400 and €1,200.
For users requiring faster charging times, 11 kW systems are available with estimated costs ranging from €600 to €1,500, while more powerful 22 kW solutions can exceed €2,500.
The cost of installation must be added to the price of the device itself and generally ranges between €300 and €800 under standard conditions. However, expenses can increase significantly if more complex work is required, such as upgrading part of the electrical system, installing long cable runs, or adapting existing infrastructure.
The possible upgrade of the electricity meter capacity should also be taken into account, as it usually involves an additional cost of between €100 and €150.
The next event for industry professionals is E-Charge 2026, the trade fair dedicated to the EV charging industry and market, including charging stations and infrastructure, technologies, and services, scheduled to take place from October 7 to 9, 2026, at Bologna Exhibition Center.
The event will be held as part of Urban Tech – The Urban Technology Show, a new exhibition focused on e-mobility, traffic, commuting, security, telecommunications & data, and environmental technologies.
